New World Screwworm – Animal Movement Permit Application

A permit is required for all warm-blooded animals entering Mississippi from:

1. A county where New World Screwworm (NWS) has been confirmed, OR
2. Within a surveillance zone or high-risk county near where NWS has been confirmed

To determine if a permit is needed, use this map https://mbah.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=eb22a3466b1d4133a5bce9d4babe4877 to see the confirmed and/or high-risk areas. 

The permit application should be submitted by an accredited veterinarian or their designee at least 48 hours prior to movement of animals. Submission of the application does not guarantee that the permit request will be approved.

This requirement applies ALL warm-blooded animals including but not limited to cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs, wild/exotic animals, and birds.

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) must be completed within 7 days prior to animal movement and must include the following statement: “All animals were inspected and found free of evidence of NWS infestation.” If required for movement out of an infested zone, the NWS animal movement certificate must be submitted with the CVI.
