A horse in Clarke County has tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). This is the first EEE case in Mississippi this year. EEE is transmitted to horses and humans from mosquitoes. The disease cannot be transmitted to humans from horses.
EEE is nearly 100% fatal in horses and no treatment is available. VACCINATION IS THE ONLY PREVENTION AVAILABLE AGAINST EEE IN HORSES. Talk to your veterinarian about this disease and vaccinations.
