Current News

Mississippi counties (Clarke, Madison, Monroe, and Stone) have each had one horse test positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).  That is a total of four positive horses this year.  All four were found August 2025.

EEE is transmitted to horses and humans from mosquitoes. The disease cannot be transmitted to humans from horses.  VACCINATION IS THE ONLY PREVENTION AVAILABLE AGAINST EEE IN HORSES.  This disease is nearly 100% fatal in horses and no treatment is available. Keep your horses healthy; talk to your veterinarian today about EEE and vaccinations.
