Exotic Livestock Movement or Import Permit Application
Entry Requirements for Exotic Livestock:Â
Instructions: Movement of all exotic livestock requires a permit from the Board of Animal Health prior to animal movement. This includes import of exotic livestock from out-of-state and movement of exotic livestock within the state of Mississippi. After your request has been received and reviewed, MBAH will notify you regarding the status of your request. Review entry requirements at https://www.mbah.ms.gov/regulations/chapter-12/. Electronic health certificates are preferred. Additional documents should be sent to exoticanimals@mdac.ms.gov.

Important reminders for exotic livestock imported from out-of-state:
- All animals shall be officially tagged or permanently marked in such a way that they will be identifiable as the animals listed on the health certificate. The accredited veterinarian must state on the certificate that the exotic livestock have been inspected and are free of external parasites and evidence of contagious and communicable disease.
- Cervidae 6 months of age and over must have tested negative for brucellosis within 30 days prior to entry and must have tested negative for tuberculosis with a cervical tuberculosis test within 30 days prior to entry.
- CWD-susceptible species of cervids: White-tailed Deer, Elk, Red Deer, Reindeer, Moose, Sika, Mule Deer and Black-tailed Deer and crosses of those animals are considered CWD-susceptible animals and are not allowed entry into Mississippi, with the exception of permits for cervids used for exhibition purposes only. Additionally, it is illegal to import white-tail deer into Mississippi.
- Exotic bovidae 6 months of age and over must have tested negative for brucellosis within 30 days prior to entry and must have tested negative to tuberculosis within 30 days prior to entry.
- Exotic swine must have tested negative for brucellosis and pseudorabies within 30 days prior to entry.
- Camelidae over 6 months of age used for milking must have tested negative for brucellosis and tuberculosis within 30 days prior to entry.
- Exotic equids including donkeys, asses, burros and zebras must be in compliance with domestic equine import requirements, including a negative Coggins test within the past 12 months.
